After you have successfully satisfied all the ID and documentary requirements to obtain a new passport or have your old one renewed, you will be issued a receipt by the DFA cashier. If you opted not to have your passport delivered to you, you will have to go back to that DFA branch to claim your passport. The date of release is stamped on the receipt; you may come back on or after the date stated on your receipt – but not later than six months.
What happens if I fail to claim my passport after six months?
Based on DFA regulations, all unclaimed passports at the DFA main office, Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) Passport Extension Office, Regional Consular Offices (RCOs) nationwide will be considered inactive and will be disposed of after six months.
Do I need to apply for a new one again and pay the same fees?
Yes. You need to secure an appointment online in order to be accommodated for your new passport application. Apart from all the required IDs and documents, you also need to secure an Unclaimed List from the DFA Records Division. This must be attached to your application documents and submitted to the DFA.
Pay the corresponding fee at the cashier and wait for your receipt. Make sure that the release date is clearly stamped on the slip.
- PHP 950.00 for regular processing (15 working days).
- PHP 1,200 for rush processing (7 working days).
- Additional PHP 150.00 if you opt to have the passport delivered to you.
What if I lose my receipt?
You need to draft a signed explanation letter to detail the reasons why you lost your receipt. This must be presented at the releasing section on or after the release date.
Can I ask a relative or a friend to claim my passport on my behalf?
No, you have to personally appear at the DFA branch when claiming your passport.

Wala na po yung passport niyo na hindi niyo na claim. Mag apply na kayo ng panibago. Since naga-apply ka for a new passport dahil hindi mo na-claim yung passport mo the last time, kailangan may hawak kang proof na nasama ang passport mo sa mga na-discard ng DFA in the past. Pwede ka namang pumunta sa DFA to ask for a list of unclaimed passports anytime before your appointment.

Kung papapalitan mo ang apelido mo sa iyong passport (from maiden name to married name), hihingin sa iyo ang marriage certificate mo. Pero kung hindi, kailangan mo lang ang NSO birth certificate mo at iba pang valid IDs tulad ng Philhealth, company ID, etc.

Yes, I think DFA is open on Saturdays. This is the case in Lipa City but I’m not sure with out other DFA offices.

Hello, I would like to ask regarding the unclaimed certificate. I applied for a passport last February 2011 through mobile services but I was not able to claim it. When I applied for a new passport just last month, I was required to pass an unclaimed certificate from the DFA office who initiated the mobile services in my place last February 2011. My problem is, I am now residing far from their office already, Is there any way or possibility that I can get an unclaimed certificate without going to their office so that I can apply for a new passport? You can only get that certificate in the DFA main office. Other DFA offices do not issue unclaimed passport certificate.
Hello po. I alreadywent to the dfa office and applied for a new passport but it was still pending due to the unclaimed certificate. They are still processing it by letting me write a letter of explaination that I may get an unclaimed certificate since it is one of the requirements in getting a new passport. Days prior to the application, one of the dfa personnels informed me through phone that based on their record, there is no mobile service in my place on that year but my old passport appears to be active until today and it’s in Dubai. She told me that they are going to forward this to the main office. My question is, how come that my old passport is still active the fact that it was unclaimed? Is it possible that someone is using it without my knowledge? How long will I wait before they will inform me again that I can get my unclaimed certificate and may continue to get a new passport? Please give me pieces of advice of what will I do… Thank you so much and may God bless us all.

Kung sa DFA branch na nasa mall ka nag apply ng passport, pwede mong ma-claim on a Saturday. PEro kung sa Aseana o sa DFA office mismo, weekdays lang sila bukas so weekdays mo lang talaga pwedeng ma-claim.
Also, pag lumagpas ng 6 months at hindi mo pa na-claim, idi-dispose ni DFA ang passport mo at kakailanganin mo ulit mag apply ng panibago. Kaya huwag mong paaabutin ng more than 6 months. Kunin mo na agad pag may time ka.

Passports na hindi na-claim after 6 months are discarded by the DFA. Also, you need the claim stub when getting your passport. Try visiting the DFA in your area to find out kung ano na status ng passport mo and why they weren’t able to deliver as promised.

Yes requirement talaga yung unclaimed list; pwede kang kumuha nito sa releasing. And yes, pwede kang mag apply ng panibagong passport kahit hindi mo na-claim yung last mong passport.

You have six months to claim your passport; just bring your receipt from DFA.
Beyond six months, the passport is discarded and you will have to apply for a new copy again.

Wala naman, basta’t pareho ang name na nakalagay sa birth certificate mo at pangalan na gamit mo sa iba mo pang documents. May mga bansa, tulad ng mga bansa sa Middle East, na hindi tumatanggap ng passport ng mga taong walang middle name.
