Four months after the MMDA re-activated the number coding scheme (after a long lull because of quarantine restrictions, lockdowns, etc.), the public is now being asked to brace itself for a new number coding implementation where vehicles will be banned from using Metro Manila roads not once, but twice, in a week.
Here are the details we gathered about the new number coding scheme from the MMDA:
- The new number coding scheme is projected to reduce the volume of vehicles in Metro Manila roads by 40%.
- This shall take effect from 5PM to 7PM from Mondays to Fridays.
- This is how the scheme assigns the days when a car is prohibited during the hours and days mentioned above:
Plate Numbers Ending In: | Day Prohibited: |
1, 2, 3, 4 | Monday |
5, 6, 7, 8 | Tuesday |
9, 0, 1, 2 | Wednesday |
3, 4, 5, 6 | Thursday |
7, 8, 9, 0 | Friday |
4. The new number coding scheme only applies to private vehicles. Buses, jeepneys, taxis, and TNVS cars are excluded.
During the Holy Week, it was reported that the new number coding scheme will be implemented by mid-May.
What are your thoughts on this latest news from the MMDA? We’d love to hear from you!
