How to Get Your Digital National ID from PhilSys

Did you know that you can now apply for your digital National ID online?

According to the official Facebook account of the Philippine Identification System (@PSAPhilSysOfficial), there are three easy steps to get a digital national ID through the online registration portal that will be made available this month (April 2021).

I checked and it seems that the online portal is not yet activated (or available online).  I sent a message to the PhilSys website and they said that they are targeting to have the portal up and running within the second quarter of this year, so that means between now until the end of June.  But just the same, I am sharing the process released by the PSA PhilSys for your reference and also so you’d know what documents you need to prepare in order to get the ID.

Read on:

STEP 1: Collection of demographic information.

You will be asked to provide the following personal details:

  • Name
  • Sex
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Blood type
  • Address

You will also be asked to provide other optional information such as your marital status, mobile number, and email address.

After you have submitted these information online, you will be asked to set an appointment for the second step of the registration.  Of course, choose a registration site that is nearest your place of residence.

STEP 2: Collection of biometric information.

You need to bring an ORIGINAL COPY of AT LEAST ONE of the following when you proceed to your registration center for step 2:

  • PSA Certificate of Live Birth AND one government-issued identification document which bears your full name, front-facing photograph, and signature or thumb mark.
  • DFA-issued Philippine passport or e-passport;
  • GSIS or SSS-issued Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card (UMID);
  • Land Transportation Office (LTO)-issued Student’s License Permit or Non-professional/Professional Driver’s License.

The following identification documents shall be accepted as secondary supporting documents provided that they have a front-facing photograph, signature/thumbmark, full name, permanent address, date of birth:

  • Employee ID
  • School ID
  • Barangay Clearance/Certificate
  • Barangay ID
  • City/Municipal ID

The following procedures will be done to complete your second step for the registration:

  • Fingerprint collection
  • Iris scan
  • Front-facing photograph
  • Validation of supporting documents

STEP 3: Issuance of PhilSys Number (PSN) at PhilID

Ta-da!!! Your PSN and PhilID will be delivered by PHLPost to your home address.  The PSA reminds all of us to refrain from taking photos of our PhilID and posting the pictures on social media because our IDs contain personal information that could easily be copied and used by others.

There you go! While waiting for the portal to be available online, why not start checking your files if you have the required IDs and documents for registration. You can order copies of your PSA certificate of live birth at for a faster and more convenient way of getting your birth certificate. Only P365 per copy – inclusive of processing and shipping!

You may contact PhilSys for your questions by sending an email to or by calling their hotline at 1388 (fees may apply).

Till next time!

    1. Kung may mali po sa birth certificate, you can consult with the LCR kung papano ito maco-correct. Kung suffix lang ang mali, usually yan, petition for correction of clerical error na lang as long as you can present documentary proof that you are a “junior” and not a “senior”. You have the option to continue using the “incorrect” entry but of course, there is a very big chance that this error might cause you delays and denials in your transactions later on, so better to be safe than sorry na lang.
