Philippine Passports for Pinoys with Dual Citizenship

Passport for Dual Citizenship

In yesterday’s blog, we talked about the possibility of re-acquiring Filipino citizenship after becoming a naturalized citizen of another country. Such Pinoys have dual citizenship.

Today’s blog will focus on how a Filipino with dual citizenship can apply for his Philippine passport. Yes. They can have two passports – one from the country where they were naturalized and one from the Philippines.

Here’s how:

  1. Prepare the documentary requirements you will be needing; below is the list as published in www.passport.com.ph:
    • Duly accomplished passport application form
    • PSA Birth Certificate in Security Paper (SECPA) or
    • Certified True Copy (CTC) of Birth Certificate issued by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) and duly authenticated by the PSA. Transcribed Birth Certificate from LCR is required when entries in PSA Birth Certificate are blurry or unreadable.
    • If born abroad, Report of Birth Duly Authenticated by PSA.
    • Valid picture IDs and supporting documents to prove identity.
    • Identification Certificate of Retention or Re-acquisition.
    • Oath of Allegiance
    • Order of Approval
  2. List of acceptable IDs (at least 1 of the following):
    • Government –issued picture IDs such as the following:
      • Digitized SSS ID
      • Driver’s License
      • GSIS E-card
      • PRC ID
      • IBP ID
      • OWWA ID
      • Digitized BIR ID
      • Senior Citizen’s ID
      • Unified Multi-Purpose ID (UMID)
    • Other acceptable picture IDs such as the following:
      • Old college ID
      • Alumni ID
      • Old Employment IDs

You may proceed to the DFA Aseana for your Philippine passport application. Their address is: ASEANA Business Park, Bradco Avenue corner Macapagal Boulevard, Paranaque City. Best to inform the guard of the building that you are applying for a Philippine passport as a dual citizen so they can direct you to the office where you may transact.

You do not need an appointment as your case is different from regular passport application and renewal.

  2. 2 Questions:

    1. How about renewal of Philippine passports for dual citizens (i.e. already have a PH passport and also in possession of a US passport)? Is the process the same as ordinary Filipino citizens?

    2. I am currently using my US passport for international travel (to avoid visa applications) however my PH passport still gets stamped at NAIA to and from in order to credit me as a permanent resident (not tourist). Since the PH passport is secondary, does it still need to undergo renewal even if the US passport is the primary document being stamped?

    1. 1. Amount of passport is the same.
      2. Its up to you if you want to renew it. The purpose of your Phil. passport as you said is you can stay here in the Phil. for a longer period of time with out being an over staying tourist.

  3. Magkano po magagastos kung magpa dual citizen.u.s passport po anak q.at wla pang birth certificate s pinas.marianas Saipan u.s.a po xa pinangalingan.1996.kya nagkaroon po xa u.s passport.

  4. Sir, your site is very informative. I wish to know what are the benefits of having dual citizenship. Does it allow a ownership of real properties like ordinary Filipinos or just limited to some size? Likewise, what are the rights and responsibilities of having a dual citizenship. Thank you and regards.

    1. Master Citizen Sirs, I found the answers of my questions in some section of your blog site. Thank you.

  5. Hello MC

Salamat sa reply. Dito na ako nakatira sa Sweden.
So hindi pala automatic ang dual kahit both countries ay
    Ina allow eto.
Eto ba yung Republic Act 9225? Akala ko kasi na dual na ako.

  6. Hello

Yung mga kilala ko na naging Swedish citizen year 2014-2016 ay sinasabi nila magpapa Dual pa daw sila… which i googled and found out na both Sweden and Philippines allow dual citizenship.

Philippines allow dual so i have dual citizenship right???
Tried to call and email Philippine embassy in Norway no answer at all

    Thank you

    1. H Sheryl,

Thank you. Please reply.

  7. Mag Kano ang gagastusin pag kukuha Ng dual Kong sakali lang ang hirap kasi pag nag kuha da ganyan Ma dami chichi burichi ok Lang sana Kong isang building Lang ang pagkukuhanan Ng mga paper ang hirap kasi ubos na budget dipa makuha lahat Ng paper kasi da lalayo Ng Punta duon Punta dito yang ang laki husle

  8. I wanted to apply for a Philippine passport when I re-settled back here in the Philippines in late 2013. The problem is, I married here in 1993 and although have been divorced overseas after 6 years of marriage, the DFA still requires me to get a certificate of attendance from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas. I asked why when I’m already divorced and showed them my divorced papers, but they said they cannot attend to me unless I go to CFO and attend the seminar for couples and get the certificate. This seems unnecessary attending the seminar as does not apply to my situation anymore. Please advise on this, thank you.

      1. My question is ,,is it OK if I’m going to laminate my CFO certificate? Wait for your response thank you;)
